LAKE GEORGE, N.Y. (NEWS10) – A Saratoga Springs swimmer put on a record breaking performance over the weekend.

David Dammerman, 47, swam the length of Lake George from 5 p.m. Saturday to nearly noon on Sunday. His time of 18 hours, 54 minutes and 22 seconds shattered the previous record set by John Freihofer in 1981 by nearly 2.5 hours.

Lake George is 32.2 miles long.

Dammerman’s swim was a tune up in advance of a big event in mid-September known as the Lake George Marathon Swim. During the marathon, nearly 90 swimmers in both solo and relay teams will take part.

The event is expected to raise $14,000 for charities.Past crossings of Lake George courtesy of Gwenne Rippon:
