ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Governor Andrew Cuomo announced Monday a contract will allow the installation of 300 electric charging stations in public locations across New York State.

The charging stations are part of the Governor’s ChargeNY program to get rid of gas emissions and promote clean energy across the state.

Cuomo’s goal is to have 3,000 charging stations online in the state by 2018 which will help achieve its goal for a 40 percent reduction in greenhouse emissions by 2030.

“New York is a national leader in promoting green technology and developing the clean energy economy, and these new charging stations will support the growing increase in electric vehicles use across the state,” said Governor Cuomo.

Under the ChargeNY program, a total of around 1,600 charging stations have been installed around the state, including those by municipalities and businesses.
