ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – New York Governor Andrew Cuomo signed legislation allowing adoptees to receive a certified birth certificate at age 18.

The governor’s office says the law will ensure all adult New Yorkers will have the same rights to information about their birth and biological parents.

The new law will also allow the adopted person’s lawful representatives or descendants to gain access to the birth certificate if the adoptee is deceased.
