MAYFIELD, N.Y. (NEWS10) — New York State Police are investigating a drowning on Sacandaga Lake Friday afternoon. The incident took place near Beacon Island.

Police were called to the lake just after 4 p.m. for a man that went into the water and did not resurface. Their investigation found that Albert Adamkoski, 47, jumped into the water from a pontoon boat to rescue his child, who was struggling to swim.

He saved the child with help from a bystander, but Adamkoski became submerged in the water and did not resurface. His body was located about two hours later.

The drowning is believed to be accidental, but the investigation is ongoing.
