Father starts youth sports nonprofit to honor son

Athletic Haven is a volunteer-based non-profit organization created to support youth athletes and more importantly, level the playing field, in the Capital Region.

Scott McIntyre, a longtime coach, started the nonprofit in 2016 to honor his son, Tyler.

Athletic Haven offers low-cost camps, open gyms, coaching and training opportunities to kids 12 years old and younger. Right now, they offer coaching in basketball, but plan to expand to other sports.

Named after his son, Scott established the tsm Fund to grant scholarships to youth athletes who display outstanding sportsmanship.

Expanding their efforts, this week they’ll offer tryouts for a girls basketball team. For more information, visit their website.
