Event held to sign Christmas cards for troops

ROTTERDAM, N.Y. (NEWS10) — They’ve been writing Christmas cards for our troops for months now and the local organization just signed their last batch on Saturday.

Messages will be sent out to New Yorkers who are serving overseas during the holidays. Saturday’s card signing wrapped up at the McDonald’s on Curry Road in Rotterdam.

This is the tenth year for ‘Christmas cards for our troops,’ and this year, the organization exceeded their goal by 50 percent.

“We start in actually July,” said organizer Melody Burns. “We start holding activities and this is our last one and our goal this year was 200,000 cards and we actually exceeded that by 110,000 cards.”

A mailing parade will take place next Saturday, starting at the Glenmont Panera Bread.
