CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Sightings of scary or creepy looking clowns have been making their way across the country and across social media.

There have been two reported sightings in the general area. One at an apartment complex in Clifton Park and another just up the Northway in Halfmoon.

The people who saw these clowns were so scared, they filed police reports.

On Monday night, a woman at the Fox Run Apartments in Clifton Park reported seeing what she described as a “creepy clown” lurking outside one of the laundry rooms at night. The woman later reported it to the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Department.

“It was just really creepy. Like he was just standing there in the middle of the street and so I was freaked out because of everything that was happening in the south,” Alyssa said.

It scared her so much, she didn’t want us to show her face on camera or use her last name.

“I feel like somebody is going to end up getting hurt. I just don’t think it’s necessary. I don’t think that it’s funny.”

Another person at the complex posted on social media about a second sighting in the area but did not contact police.

Another sighting happened around 7 a.m. in the Sitterly Road area. Another police report was filed and the caller snapped a picture.

“I was really freaked out because there were children in the background and it appeared like the clown was just staring at them.”

That picture was taken by a friend of Alyssa’s brother.

Lt. Dan Morley with the sheriff’s department says at this time no crime has been committed, but they are monitoring these areas closely. Police have not been able to locate the person or persons responsible.

“It’s the type of thing that I would say if you see something, say something. It would be a good idea to talk to your children about stranger danger. At this point in time, we don’t have any allegations of criminal conduct.”

Lt. Morely says there’s no reason for the public to be scared at this time, but Alyssa says she’s not taking any chances.

“I’m not going outside. When I get home from work and sometimes it’s dark, I run inside and lock the doors. It’s scary. I can’t even sit on my porch.”

Fox Run Apartments did not want to go on camera but say none of their residents have filed complaints and until they have proof there’s not much they can do. They are encouraging anyone who sees the clown, to call the police.

Social media may be perpetuating the craze a bit. People saying they saw clowns in Schenectady and Troy, but police in both cities say no complaints have been filed.
