PITTSFIELD, Mass. (NEWS10) — The Pittsfield Police Department took to the streets on Wednesday afternoon not to fight crime, but to hand out free ice cream to their community.

It was called “Operation Copsicle” and the members say it was a complete success.

The effort served over 430 frozen delicious treats to both the young and not-so-young. The officers apparently told the ice cream man they needed the truck for an “emergency.” He knew they were joking.

Surveillance video shows the operation went very well 🙂

You can see in the video all the way to the bottom, one of the kids running to the truck actually stops to hug one of the police officers.

The Department posted it all to their Facebook page with the hashtag, #CommunityMatters.

Thank you Pittsfield Police!
