ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — Officials say a city clerk in New York has paid back over $35,000 she stole from property tax payments and dog license fees.
State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli says former Mayfield Town Clerk Dorothy Hart was sentenced Monday.
Hart’s sentence also includes 250 hours of community service and a prohibition on serving in public office.
The former town clerk pleaded guilty in September to the fourth degree felony of grand larceny. DiNapoli’s office says Hart pocketed over $27,000 in property taxes and $8,000 of fees including dog licenses deposited with the town over four years.
Authorities say Hart submitting false monthly reports to the town supervisor to cover the embezzlement.
An effort to reach 64-year-old Hart using a listed phone number was unsuccessful.
