At Maplewood School, everyone knows five-year-old Charlie Fernandez, an outgoing and fun-loving young girl.
Last September, Charlie was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a rare form of cancer, commonly diagnosed in children five years old or younger.
Since the diagnosis, she has undergone surgeries and rounds of chemotherapy. She’s needed 15 or more blood transfusions during the process and doctors expect she will need more blood transfusions in the future.
As a way to support Charlie, friends and family held a blood drive in her honor.
