Blood drive at Salem Fire Department Tuesday

SALEM, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The Salem Volunteer Fire Department is holding a blood drive at the firehouse on Tuesday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m at 53 South Main Street in Salem.

Contact (800) RED-CROSS or visit redcrossblood.org and use the sponsor code SALEMNYFD to schedule an appointment.

The fire department will hold another blood drive on December 16.

If you donate blood to the Red Cross anytime in October, you can enter a prize drawing for one of five $1,000 Amazon gift cards.

North Country Report: 20-megawatt solar project coming to Fort Edward

FORT EDWARD, N.Y. (NEWS10) - In Gov. Andrew Cuomo's State of the State Address this week, two dozen new solar and wind power initiatives were announced across the state. One of those will bring two solar plants to the town of Fort Edward.

There wasn't much to know yet on Friday about what the 20-megawatt project would bring to the town in terms of space consumption or job opportunity, but the numbers are a good start. Currently, Washington County generates around 25 megawatts, a number that will be nearly doubled by the time this project is complete.

Over $45M in funding announced for North Country colleges and universities

WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWTI) -- Significant funding has been allocated for colleges and universities in the North Country. On Jan. 12, over $45 million in funding was announced for public and non-profit colleges and universities throughout the region.

Major universities such as Clarkson and St. Lawrence University, SUNY colleges and programs such as the Jefferson-Lewis BOCES Program of Practical Nursing were all included in the recent funding.
