Police: Baby endured 4 straight days of assault by mother charged with attempted murder

Albany County

WATERVLIET, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The Watervliet Police Department has charged Samantha Valentine, 31, of Watervliet, with second-degree attempted murder. They say she tried to kill her 10-month-old son.

The felony complaint from police alleges that she intended to cause his death when she picked him up off the changing table and violently threw him across the room, onto the floor. They say the baby had bleeding in his brain after hitting his head and face.

“I have seen many other children die from less abuse than what this poor baby endured,” said Watervliet Police Chief Joseph Centanni.

Valentine was reportedly arraigned on Tuesday, and police say the assaults took place over a four-day period, concluding on October 16 when someone in the house called 911. Police held a press conference Wednesday at 11 a.m. to discuss the case and the charges.

“There was an assault on the 13th, there were a couple on the 14th, there was one or two on the 15th, and then there was the one on the 16th,” Centanni said.
