COEYMANS, N.Y. (NEWS10) — On Monday, Albany officials broke ground for the new Albany County Department of Public Works highway subdivision garage in Coeymans. The facility is 15,480 square feet and will replace the 30-year-old structures being demolished.

The replacement highway garage will offer green energy and environmental sustainability. The building will be the first in Albany county to be fully powered by 100% green, renewable energy.

Electricity will be powered by solar panels on the roof. The building will be heated and cooled through advanced go-thermal heat and pump technology. Rainwater will be collected and used to wash DPW vehicles.

There will be two electric vehicle charging stations on site. The building is expected to be “substantially” complete in January 2024.
