ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – Nearly 700 bicyclists made their way to Albany Sunday night, the last stop on their 400 mile trek across New York State.

This is the 18th year of “Cycle The Erie Canal”, an 8-day bike ride organized by Parks and Trails New York.

Riders from 38 states took part in the event. Some even came from as far away as Australia.

After crossing the finish line, there was a celebration with food and music.

Robin Dopkin, the Executive Director of the non-profit that organizes the ride says the beauty of the Erie Canal is something that those who live in the Capital Region can overlook.

“They meet these people from all over the world who are saying ‘you live in one of the most beautiful places on the planet, you have so much history, you have this great trail, you have so much going’ and they feel really proud,” says Dopkin.

The oldest rider crossing the finish line Sunday was 92 years old.
