CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. (NEWS10) – An annual softball tournament in memory of a local student who died in a car crash is set to take place.
For high school seniors who play spring sports, sectionals tends to be bittersweet. It’s the last run at a championship, and though some hoist a trophy, most end their school careers with a loss.
If you’re a local softball player and have a burning desire to play in just one more game, then you’re in luck.
The 4th annual Deanna Rivers 518 Memorial Tournament is scheduled to take place on Sunday, June 12. It’s free to sign up, and the MVP will be awarded a $500 scholarship.
The event is in memory of Deanna Rivers, a Shenendehowa student who was killed in a car crash on the Northway in 2012. She played softball at Shen, and her parents said the tournament would be exactly what she would want.
