History in Bronze: the Doughboy statue in Rhinebeck NY

RHINEBECK, N.Y. (NEWS10)—Sculptor Allen Newman (1875 – 1940), best known for his sculpture the Hiker, created three Doughboy Statues in 1919 at his Marbletown workshop. The first is in the Lawrenceville neighborhood of Pittsburgh, the second was installed in Cliffside, New Jersey, and the third was held in the artist's collection for exhibitions until his death.

His son Thomas Allen Newman sold the piece to William Perry of Nyack, N.Y. Perry then sold the Doughboy to Dewitt Gurnell, Rhinebeck's first official town historian.

Albany carpenters union donates funds to Capital Region hospitals for COVID-19 aid efforts

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – The North Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters (NASRCC) announced that Local 291 will be making donations to several hospitals in the Capital Region, including the Nathan Littauer Foundation, St. Peter's Health, and Ellis Hospital.

The carpenters union will donate $2,000 to each hospital to help provide PPE for frontline healthcare workers and hospital staff.

Vermonters in need receive cheese from the Vermont Farmstead Cheese Company

WINDSOR, Vt. (WFFF) - As a result of a generous donation from Rotary Clubs, Vermonters in need are getting cheddar cheese from the Vermont Farmstead Cheese Company.

The previous president of the Brattleboro Rotary Club, Marty Cohn, said he knew people needed help as the pandemic raged on. A fundraising effort was born, benefiting both dairy farmers and those in need.
