MECHANICVILLE, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Mechanicville Superintendent Bruce Potter has resigned from his position effective on March 28. The school board accepted his resignation during a special meeting Monday evening.

The board also said it accepted the terms of the signed settlement agreement between Potter and the board. The terms of the settlement were not made public Monday.

Potter was placed on paid administrative leave earlier in the month after a complaint was filed against him. The board did not disclose what kind of complaint had been filed against him.

At the March 3 school board meeting, Kevin Kolakowski was named as the acting superintendent. Effective immediately, he is now the interim superintendent. Kolakowski was the Jr./Sr. High School principal for ten years before being promoted to Assistant Superintendent two years ago.

The board said it plans to start the search for a new, permanent superintendent through an internal posting. Interested candidates will interview with the board. If the board does not find a suitable candidate, then it will consider searching outside the school district. NEWS10 reached out to Potter, who said he could not comment.
