Man sentenced for possession of an illegal handgun

ALBANY, N.Y. - An Albany man has been sentenced to prison following a jury trial.

Levi Malloy, 52, of Albany, was sentenced to 15 years in State Prison on Wednesday morning.

On July 1, Malloy was found guilty following a jury trial of one Count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, a Felony.

On October 25, 2013 at the intersection of Morton Avenue and Delaware Avenue, Malloy was pulled over by an Albany Police Officer for a traffic infraction.

Upon speaking with Malloy, the officer detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and observed two marijuana cigarettes in plain view.

After removing the man from the vehicle, officers discovered an unregistered Dickson .25 caliber handgun on the floor of the vehicle that was loaded with six rounds of live ammunition.
