ALBANY, N.Y. – The Saint Rose women's soccer team is getting ready for the next season with lofty goals to reach.
The Golden Knights have become a model of consistency. They recorded their sixth straight 20-win season in 2013 en route to winning at least a share of the Northeast 10 regular season title in each of the past eight seasons.
They followed it up with their sixth conference championship in the last seven years, and they're expected to win it again in 2014, but the Golden Knights' end goal is loftier than that.
“It means everything to be back here because there's only one goal in mind, and that is to win a national championship,” senior forward Carmelina Puopolo said.
“We love the bar being set high,” senior back Jourdan Thompson said. “It's really exciting coming in every season, and we just try to take it game-by-game and take it one game at a time. Fight our way through the NE10 then focus on the national championship.”
The Golden Knights return eight starters, including Puopolo and Thompson. They are both two-time first team All-Americans. Saint Rose opens its season Thursday against Nyack.
