NY woman charged with child endangerment

Posted: Updated:

LEVITTOWN, N.Y. (AP) - Police have arrested a Long Island woman after she was found passed out in a hot car with an infant inside.

Authorities say police found 28-year-old Jessica Rosengart semi-conscious and slumped over inside her Dodge Dart in Levittown Monday afternoon. The vehicle was locked and the windows were closed.

Police say the infant was sweating profusely in a car seat.

They say Rosengart opened the door after police repeatedly banged on the window.

Police found a hypodermic needle and three glassine bags of heroin. They say Rosengart violated a court order of protection by having unsupervised contact with the infant.

The baby was taken to a hospital for observation.

Rosengart was charged with endangering the welfare of a child and other charges.

It wasn't immediately known if she had a lawyer.
