Troy man in custody after early morning police chase

ALBANY, N.Y. – Officials say a man is in custody after sending multiple agencies on a police chase.

Two patrol officers walking on foot say they saw 21-year-old I'Lason Willis of Troy hit a car head on with his vehicle between South Pearl Street and Sheridan Avenue around 4:00a.m. Sunday morning.

Police say after they approached the vehicle, the driver fled the scene, nearly striking the two officers with his car in the process.

The driver then continued up Columbia Street where police say he struck two unoccupied vehicles before they lost sight of the car.

Patrol officers say they located the car on Madison Avenue where they attempted to pull Willis over.

Willis failed to comply, and continued driving onto 787 Northbound where other agencies were called to assist in a low speed police chase.

Watervliet, Green Island, Troy, Albany, and State Police were all involved.

The chase ended on 9th Street in Troy where the driver drove his vehicle into the woods. He then attempted to flee on foot.

Watervliet Sherriff's found Willis and arrested him. He has been charged with DWI, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Reckless Endangerment, and other traffic violations.

Police say there were no injuries.
