National Association of Professional Women (NAPW) honors Althea J. Albert-Santiago as a 2014 Professional Woman of the Year. Ms. Albert-Santiago is recognized with this prestigious distinction for leadership in her field. As the largest, most-recognized networking organization of professional women in the country, spanning virtually every industry and profession, NAPW is a powerfully vibrant networking community with over 600,000 members and nearly 300 Local Chapters.

My skills and areas of expertise include food services, sanitation and nutrition, says Ms. Albert-Santiago, Director of Food and Nutrition Services at St. Louis Public Schools.

In her role overseeing the food and nutrition program in the districts 12 schools, Ms. Albert-Santiago is instrumental in ensuring that students are provided with well-balanced meals that are healthy and delicious. She has made numerous improvements when it comes to the types of food that are served to students and how that food is prepared. During my tenure with the school, I have advocated and have been instrumental in the creation and inclusion of programs and facility upgrades allowing our students to have a better understanding of their food choices and ultimately, their meals, says Ms. Albert-Santiago.

Among the many changes she has implemented are menu revisions, better food options and facility upgrades. There is also in place a new program that brings local chefs to the schools to teach students how to prepare fresh, healthy and delicious food. The children have the exciting opportunity of interacting with chefs while learning more about the importance of choosing foods with better nutritional values. Ms. Albert-Santiago is passionate about continuing her mission of letting students have access to nutritious meals during their school day and will continue to put programs such as these in place throughout the district. Recently, St. Louis Public Schools were recognized by the Healthier US Challenge and the district's 12 schools were each awarded $1,000 by the USDA.

NAPWs mission is to provide an exclusive networking forum to successful women executives, professionals and entrepreneurs where they can aspire, connect and achieve.
