Sheriff: Man sped through campgrounds, stuck pedestrian
LAKE GEORGE, N.Y. – A man has been arrested after striking a pedestrian while allegedly driving erratically on campgrounds.
According to the Warren County Sheriff's Office, they responded to a report of a vehicle operating erratically at the Lake George Escape Campground on East Schroon River Road on Sunday night.
Authorities say Edward Lewis, 52, was operating a pick-up truck through the campground at high rates of speed and spinning its tires. Campers attempted to intervene and were able to stop the truck at one point by standing in the road.
Lewis is then accused of accelerating the pick-up towards the group and striking a pedestrian. The victim sustained minor injuries.
Lewis allegedly fled the area. He was located a short time later at his camp site.
The Sheriff's office has charged Lewis with misdemeanors of reckless endangerment in the second degree and leaving the scene of a personal injury accident.
Lewis was processed and remanded to police lockup pending arraignment or posting of bail.
