Cuomo speaks on Israel trip

NEW YORK – Governor Andrew Cuomo spoke about his trip to Israel on Tuesday.

Cuomo said his visit to Israel is intended to show New York State’s solidarity with the nation in the middle of the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

The governor is flying out Tuesday night and was joined by lawmakers and others in New York City who would be going with him.

Cuomo said his delegation represents all of state government, and he and his team will spend the next two days meeting with the Israeli government and former New Yorkers living there.

“Everyone wants the killing to stop,” Cuomo said. “There is no doubt. But at the same time, Israel must have the right to defend itself.”

Tuesday morning, the Palestinian Ambassador to the United Nations sent a letter to the governor inviting him to meet with Palestinian officials during the trip. The ambassador said he wants Cuomo to experience “all sides of the conflict, not just one.”
