HILLSDALE, N.Y. – The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a farm accident that occurred Thursday morning.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a man trapped under a tractor just before 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Honey Dog Farm in Hillsdale.

According to police, a hired hand was mowing the property on a Kubota L4310D tractor and pulling a Flex Wing Woods Mower. Kenneth Rice, 73, of Churchtown climbed off the tractor to open a gated field, and the tractor began to roll towards him, police said.

The front tire of the tractor ran over Rice’s body, and he became wedged under the axle of the left side rear cutter deck which was not in operation at the time.

Rice was taken by helicopter to Albany Medical Center for internal injuries.
