Five people arrested for heroin in Duanesburg

PRINCETOWN, N.Y. – State police say five people have been arrested for possession of heroin.

Troopers say they stopped a vehicle on Interstate 88 in Duanesburg after observing the car switch lanes unsafely on Friday.

Police say when they pulled the car over; the driver gave troopers a fake name.

Once officials determined that no one in the car was valid to drive, police say they impounded the vehicle. That is when police say they discovered several decks of heroin and multiple syringes.

Troopers arrested 28-year-old Joeseph Viola, 37-year-old Lisa Merwin, 48-year-old Ann Sheridan, 35-year-old Ausitn Wart, and 37-year-old Ryan Funk, all from Stamford, New York. Officials say they are all being charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance and possession of a hypodermic instrument.

The driver, Austin Wart,  is also being charged with false personation and driving with a suspended license.

He was arraigned in Duanseburg Town Court and sent to Schenectady County Jail with bail.

The other four subjects are expected to appear in court on Monday.
