Teachers giving away free books to Amsterdam students
AMSTERDAM, N.Y. - Teachers in Amsterdam are handing out more than 2,000 free books to students of all ages, hoping to get children excited about summer reading.
The event will take place at three sites throughout the city on Monday. The sites inclued, The Clara S. Bacon School on Henrietta Boulevard, The Art Center on East Main Street, and the pavilion at Veterans Field.
The free books will be handed out between 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday.
This is co-sponsored by the First Book Initiative, which has worked with unions of teachers over the last two years to hand out hundreds of thousands of books to students at no cost.
