Schenectady County offers Project Lifesaver

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - The Schenectady Sheriff's Office is starting a new program that helps find people who have wandered away due to cognitive disorders such as Autism, Alzheimer's, and Down Syndrome.

The program is offered to residents throughout Schenectady County.

Project Lifesaver uses a wrist watch transmitter which is attached to the client's wrist or ankle. The watch can be located by trained deputies using a special receiver with an directional antenna similar to a GPS.

The program expects to limit the amount of time and money spent searching for a lost person, and most importantly it will help police and rescures find the person faster than ordinary search methods.

For further information or a referral to the Lifesaver Program, people can contact the Schenectady County Sheriff's Office.
