New York park unveiling $1.1M renovation project

Posted: Updated:

COPAKE, N.Y. (AP) - A recently completed million-dollar renovation project at a state park in eastern New York is being unveiled.

The state Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation is showcasing the $1.1 million in improvements made at the Copake Falls section of Taconic State Park in the Columbia County town of Copake, on the Massachusetts border 40 miles southeast of Albany.

The project improved the park's entrance road and other infrastructure and replaced an old parking lot with a lawn for picnicking. The renovation was one of more than 100 launched two years ago at state parks and historic sites across New York as part of a $420 million improvement project.

State parks officials are holding a ceremony late Friday morning at the new overlook area next to the main parking lot.
