FALL RIVER, Mass. (AP) - A lawyer for Aaron Hernandez says a dispute over records the defense had sought from the New England Patriots has been resolved, though it's unclear whether the documents were turned over. Hernandez attorney Michael Fee says in Fall River Superior Court the matter has been resolved.
BOSTON (AP) - Police chiefs and gun safety activists are pressing Massachusetts lawmakers to give the chiefs discretion over issuing firearms identification cards needed to buy rifles or shotguns. Former Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis spoke at the Statehouse rally today and recalled an incident where a man killed an 80-year-old and then held police hostage using a shotgun after Davis had issued him an FID card.
BOSTON (AP) - State authorities are warning Massachusetts residents about a nationwide phone scam that aggressively targets taxpayers. The state attorney's general's office says it has received several complaints about the scam. The scammer usually claims to be from the Internal Revenue Service or another government agency, and tells the target they will be arrested because they did not pay or did not correctly file state or federal taxes.
HOPKINTON, Mass. (AP) - Police say one person is dead after a single-vehicle rollover in Hopkinton. Police say they responded to West Main Street at about 3:45 p.m. yesterday where they found the car on its roof and the driver unconscious. Emergency workers performed first aid on the driver, who was taken to Milford Regional Medical Center and declared dead.
CLINTON, Mass. (AP) - A popular Maine balloon festival is rescinding its invitation to a pilot whose hot air balloon crashed into power lines in Massachusetts, injuring several people. The balloon, dubbed the Raspberry Ripple, was scheduled to participate in the Great Falls Balloon Festival in Lewiston-Auburn next month. It's registered to Derald Young, who operates Damn Yankee Balloons in Dixfield, Maine.
