Residents against East Greenbush casino to challenge town board

EAST GREENBUSH, N.Y. - Casino controversy continues on Wednesday as some East Greenbush residents have another agenda for a regularly scheduled town board meeting.

Some town residents are continuing to allege a lack of transparency by the town board. They plan to challenge the town board's approval of a location for the Thompson Road casino.

In June, a group of residents known as "Save East Greenbush" filed a lawsuit against the town board and the casino developers. The suit challenges the June 12 vote in which the town board adopted a resolution supporting the casino at the site.

Now those who oppose the casino say an extension has been proposed for the deadline to rezone the land at the site without the public's knowledge.

The owners of Saratoga Casino and Raceway and Churchill Downs Inc. are backing the casino project known as Capital View Casino & Resort. The proposed resort would be an eight-story hotel and casino.
