Robots come to St. Peter’s Hospital

ALBANY, N.Y. – St. Peter’s Hospital unveiled two new robots for the operating room Monday.

Da Vinci, the new robotic surgery system, offer skilled surgeons access to a system that provides greater precision and control through three-dimensional, high definition visualization and enhanced dexterity.

The two $2.6 million robotic systems were delivered to St. Peter’s July 1. The first robot brought to the hospital was in 2004.

St. Peter’s has performed nearly 5,500 robotic procedures which is nearly one percent of all robotic procedures in the world. Today, St. Peter’s surgeons have become highly proficient at robotic surgery and are national leaders in robotic usage in procedures on the prostate, kidney, bladder as well as gynecological surgeries.

The Da Vinci XI Surgical System was cleared by the Food and Drug Administration three months ago and will be used on patients beginning Wednesday with six operations scheduled.
