Sheriff: Wife, husband accused of stealing over $40k in benefits
CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. – A couple has been arrested for allegedly stealing more than $40,000 in public assistance.
The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office says they held a joint investigation wit h the FBI and Homeland Security because they believe a local couple was receiving benefits they were not entitled to.
Authorities say an investigation determined that between 2009 and 2014, Sara Mohsenizadeh, 48, and her husband, Mohammad Amire Haghdel, 46, received more than $43,000 in public assistance benefits.
Mohsenizadeh has been charged with 10 counts of offering a false instrument for filing in the first degree, grand larceny in the third degree, welfare fraud in the third degree and making a punishable false written statement.
Haghdel was charged with two counts of offering a false instrument for filing in the first degree, grand larceny in the third degree and welfare fraud in the third degree.
The defendants were arraigned before Milton Town Justice Calderon, posted bail, and are scheduled to appear in the Milton Town Court at a later date to answer the charges.
