Woman dies after van crashes into tree in Loudonvile

LOUDONVILLE N.Y. – A car accident occurred in Loudonville over the weekend took the life of a woman.

According to Colonie Police, a 2002 Chevrolet van crashed through a residential fence and into a tree on Old Niskayuna Road just after 4 p.m. Sunday evening.

Officials say Steven Struss, 61, of Troy was operating the vehicle. He had to be taken to Albany Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries following the crash.

Police say the passenger, 57-year-old Diane Struss, was also taken to Albany Medical Center where she later succumbed to the injuries she sustained from the accident. 

The Traffic Safety Unit continues to investigate the crash.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information regarding it is asked to contact the Colonie Police Traffic Safety Unit at 783-2744.

Police remained on scene after the accident to investigate and conducted accident reconstruction.

Old Niskayuna Road was closed for nearly five hours following the accident.
