Man found dead, chemically burned, in NYC bathtub

Posted: Updated:

NEW YORK (AP) - Police say a man has been found dead and wounded by chemical burns in a Brooklyn bathtub, and his brother has been taken to a hospital for a psychological evaluation.

Police made the disturbing find around 8:45 a.m. Saturday. They were called to help a man in an apartment on West 12th Street in Coney Island.

The New York Police Department says officers arrived to find an emotionally disturbed 54-year-old man trying to bar them from the apartment. They struggled with him, restrained him and went in.

Police then discovered his 62-year-old brother dead in the tub.

Medical examiners haven't yet determined what caused his death, and it's not yet certain what chemical caused the burns to his chest and left leg.

Police haven't released the brothers' names.
