Driver in fatal I-87 crash identified

GUILDERLAND, N.Y. – New York State Police have identified the driver killed in a single-car crash near Crossgates Mall.

Julie White, 41, of Albany died after a crash around 4 p.m. July 9 near the Crossgates Mall entrance ramp.

The investigation into the crash has revealed that White was traveling southbound on I-87 near the mall ramp and attempted to change lanes in traffic and subsequently struck a guide rail near the mall entrance ramp.

Police said the vehicle became airborne and landed on the driver’s side and came to a rest in the center lane. The vehicle caught fire due to a fuel leak as local fire departments responded and attempted to contain the fire, according to police.

No other persons were involved in the accident.

As part of the continuing investigation, officials ask anyone who may have witnessed the crash or events leading up to it and who has not been interviewed to contact them at 518-783-3224.
