NEW YORK (AP) - Mayor Bill de Blasio (dih BLAH'-zee-oh) is promising a full investigation into the death of a man who appeared to have been put in a choke hold when police officers tried to arrest him. Part of Eric Garner's encounter with police was captured on amateur video. Police say the 43-year-old father of six went into cardiac arrest while he was being arrested in Staten Island yesterday on suspicion of selling untaxed cigarettes.
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (AP) - Investigators on Long Island are waiting on a medical examiner's report to determine if what appears to be a human head and other body parts are linked to a partially dismembered body discovered weeks ago. A law enforcement official says it appears the dismembered body is likely that of a Brooklyn woman reported missing earlier this month.
NEW YORK (AP) - A Queens doctor has been convicted of manslaughter following the overdose deaths of two patients. Dr. Stan Li operated a Queens pain management clinic. Prosecutors say he prescribed lethal amounts of highly addictive medications to two men who overdosed. The drugs included oxycodone and Xanax.
NEW YORK (AP) - A judge says the ride-sharing app Lyft will have to meet certain requirements before it can operate in New York City. The Taxi and Limousine Commission must approve Lyft's app and operators of its dispatching system.
