Man dies 3 days after being rescued from river

LYSANDER, N.Y. (AP) - Officials say a 55-year-old man has died three days after being rescued from a central New York river where his canoe capsized.

The Onondaga County Sheriff's Office says Gene Mason of Syracuse died Wednesday at St. Joseph's Hospital in Syracuse.

Deputies say Mason was canoeing Sunday on the Seneca River with his 15-year-old stepson and 53-year-old brother-in-law when they overturned in the town of Lysander, 10 miles northwest of Syracuse.

Nearby boaters rescued the teen and the two men, but deputies say Mason had suffered critical injuries.
