New recruits sworn into Schenectady Police Department

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Three new recruits were sworn into the Schenectady Police Department Monday.

Cole Merryman, Nicholas Ottati and James Plowden stood in the city hall rotunda, raised their right hands and took an oath to uphold the law and their duties as police officers.

All three men currently live in Schenectady.

“Being a police officer in New York State; it’s been wonderful,” Plowden said. “It’s a long time dream, so it’s just been a great experience.”

The new recruits will enter the Zone 5 Law Enforcement Training Academy on Wednesday for six months of basic training. Then they will be trained in the field for 12 weeks.
