Man accused of shoplifting from Walmart, fleeing from employees

TROY, N.Y. - State Police arrested a man for shoplifting after he fled from the scene when employees spotted him.

State Police in Brunswick say they arrested Tyrone Dennis, 51, on Sunday.

Dennis was allegedly observed by Walmart employees taking $340 worth of merchandise of the store in a plastic tote. Dennis is accused of not paying for the items.

Authorities say that when employees spotted the man, Dennis ran from the employees and fled in a vehicle. Dennis was recognized on surveillance tapes by the employees because he was allegedly involved in an attempted larceny in May.

Troopers were able to locate Dennis at a Troy residence and they say he admitted to the larceny. He also admitted to taking $230 worth of clothing from the store earlier that same day.

All merchandise was recovered.

State Police say that while Dennis was being processed at the Brunswick Barracks, Troopers discovered the man was wanted on a bench warrant out of the City of Troy Police Department. He was issued an appearance ticket for two counts of Petit Larceny and he was turned over to the Troy PD.
