Bieber fans show support on Twitter after fatal Thruway crash

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -  Social media came together to remember one of the victims of a fatal car crash on the Thruway that happened over the weekend.

The accident happened on Friday night on I-90 Westbound near Exit 24. State Police say a Volkswagen was split in two after colliding with another vehicle and then striking a tractor trailer. A fourth car hit the debris from the crash.

Two passengers from the Volkswagen, 23-year-old Cody Veverka of South Cairo and 24-year-old Alicia Tamboia of Wingdale, were killed after they were ejected from the car.

The other drivers were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Tamboia was known to be a fan of Justin Bieber. Since her death, thousands of people across the country took to Twitter to convince the pop star to tweet in her honor, and it worked.

Fans paid their respects to her on Twitter, with the hashtag "Rest in Peace Alicia". Early Sunday morning, Bieber tweeted using the same hashtag.

The crash that killed the young adults is still being investigated.

No charges have been filed.
