Crews respond to fire caused by lightning strike

GUILFORD, Vt.—The Guilford Fire Department responded to a structure fire in Guilford on Wednesday.

A second fire alarm was struck by the first firefighter on scene.

Firefighters believe that the probable cause for the fire was a lightning strike.

While at the scene, additional strikes were seen in the area, and seven firefighters were affected by the lightning strikes: Four from Guilford, two from Chesterfield, NH, and one from Bernardston, Mass.

All seven firefighters were transported to Brattleboro Memorial Hospital to be evaluated.

Nine fire departments responded to the scene, along with two ambulance services. Several additional departments provided cover to many other stations.

The house is considered a total loss.
