SHAFTSBURY, Vt. – Vermont State Police arrested a man for allegedly raping a teenage girl.
The Bennington County Special Investigation Unit began investigating an alleged sexual assault after a 16-year-old victim contacted a school official and reported the assault.
The victim stated that in 2012, when she was 14-years-old, she was sexually assaulted by Cortland Wade-Bailey who was 24 years old at the time. Wade-Bailey lured the victim via Facebook and text messages into coming to his house, according to the victim.
The victim reported that she was repeatedly sexually assaulted throughout the night and into the early morning of the following day.
Police arrested Wade-Bailey Monday at his place of work without incident, and a search warrant was executed at his residence. Information detailing the specifics of the interior of the residence by the victim matched to what police saw during the execution of the warrant.
Wade-Bailey was ordered to appear in court July 1 and was held on a probation violation at the Marble Valley Correctional Center in Rutland.
