High School row team raises money for cancer

WATERFORD, N.Y. – The McQuaid Jesuit High School boys’ crew team rowed the entire Erie Canal to raise money for cancer.

The team spent eight days rowing the entire 340 mile distance of the Erie Canal starting in Buffalo and ending in Waterford Monday. They made the trip to raise money and awareness for the American Cancer Society.

Many of the families of the crew members have been touched by cancer. Three of them lost parents to cancer over the past few years, so being a part of Row for Hope was an obvious choice for them.

“To help people who really need it more than I do,” senior Evan Manfreda said. “Rowing doesn’t compare to some of the stuff that cancer patients go through, and I just want to give what I can with what I can.”

The team raised $37,000 for the American Cancer Society.
