Columbia County Sheriff’s investigate hit and run accident


CHATHAM, N.Y.—Columbia County Sheriff’s office is continuing to investigate a hit and run accident that took place on Friday, June 27.

Ian Tucksmith, 21, was arrested and charged with Driving while Intoxicated, Aggravated Driving while intoxicated, and leaving the scene of a personal injury accident.

Deputies found that 42 year old Catherine Leonard, Chatham, was traveling east on Church Street and had stopped in front of Charron’s store when Tucksmith struck Leonard’s car in the rear, then fled the scene.

Leonard and her passenger, Timothy Knights, 44, were both transported to Columbia Memorial Hospital for neck and back pain.

Tucksmith was later located by deputies and was administered Breathalyzer test with a BAC of .18 percent.

Tucksmith is due back in court on July 15.
