Family speaks out after home damaged by storm

VALLEY FALLS, N.Y.—The ground around a family’s Valley Falls home has been washed away by the Hoosick river, and authorities are worried the house could go along with it.

The property at 35 North Street suffered severe damage after Wednesday night’s flood ripped through the area.

The family that lives inside the house said all the damage occurred in a matter of minutes.

"It’s been a nightmare. It’s very surreal. Just doesn’t seem like it happened,” said Ann Miller.

Ann Miller and Christine Burroughs were left shocked after their foundation was washed away from the storm.

Ann said she was first worried about her neighbors land and not her own.

“If I hadn’t been worried about everybody else, yeah, I probably would’ve been inside on the porch because that’s usually where I locate myself,” said Miller.

As for Christine, her side of the property wasn’t damaged at all.

“I’m just lucky that the house is okay and that is looks like we will be able to go back into it later on today,” said Burroughs.

The Valley Falls Code Enforcement evacuated both Ann and Christine from their homes Wednesday night. As of Thursday, Burroughs said she feels she’ll be safe and Ann will work to rebuild her yard.

“I love gardening so I’ll get it back to where it was,” said Miller.
