ALBANY, N.Y. - Albany Animal Control said they busted two cases of animal hoarding just days apart.

Animal control recovered four dogs and nine cats from one home on June 19. The conditions of the home led to the house being condemned.

The animals were said to be in severe condition. The dogs were emaciated with dental issues, and the cats were infested with fleas. Tina Murray is the Director of Operations for the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society.

“The floor was completely covered in feces. The dogs were living in that type of condition, and when they came out, they had feces all over them,” she said.

One of the dogs, a pug, needed to be put down because of its condition. However, Murray, said the owner wants the animals back, and Murray said the humane society will pursue criminal charges to keep the animals safe.

“She doesn’t see the things that we see, and I don’t want to see them go back into the same conditions without any changes being made,” she said.

Police said neighbors made the call because they were concerned about the issue. And now the humane society’s load got heavier.

Another woman in Albany surrendered her 30 cats on Tuesday night. They were in "okay" condition, but they were covered with fleas and needed some shots.

“It still tugs at your heart when you see these animals come in,” Murray said.

The cats will be up for adoption within two weeks, but it will take more time for the animals from the first home to be put up for adoption.
