Lake Luzerne man killed in Moreau accident


WILTON, N.Y.—The New York State Police are investigating an accident that took in place in Moreau Tuesday, June 24, taking the life of a Lake Luzerne man.

Richard Stearns, 71, was part of a landscaping crew seeking shelter from rain in their equipment trailer when the trailer was struck by a car.

The driver of the car, William Myott, 20, of Argyle, was ticketed for Reckless Driving.

According to police, the investigation revealed the driver was attempting to retrieve an item from his car console and failed to observe the trailer, which was parked partially on the road, with a traffic cone placed at the rear.

Three other workers in the trailer suffered minor injuries. Stearns was removed from the scene and flown to Albany Medical Center with multiple blunt force injuries.
