Man accused of forging restitution receipt

FORT EDWARD, N.Y. - The Warren County Sheriff's Office says they arrested a man following an incident that happened in May.

Authorities say they arrested James Gatchell Jr., 37, for the felony criminal possession of a forged instrument in the second degree.

On May 5, Gatchell allegedly presented a signed receipt to the Queensbury Town Court stating he made a partial payment of $800.00 in court-ordered restitution to the victim of a prior case. In the case, Gatchell was ordered to pay more than $1,700.00.

When the victim was contacted by law enforcement to verify that restitution had been paid, the individual told authorities that he did not receive the payment or sign the receipt.

Gatchell was arraigned in Queensbury Town Court and was remanded to the custody of the Warren County Correctional Facility.
