AMSTERDAM, N.Y. -- Despite being denied a $50 million cut in the licensing fees and a 60 day extension, the Amsterdam casino proposal is still on.
The developer got the word Friday about the denial. The commission says if they change the rules for one bidder, it would simply be unfair.
But the Montgomery County Executive, Matt Ossenfort, says hopefully the developer will be able to work through the finance issues in order to be able to get a plan and application together in time for the deadline.
"The issue was never whether or not they had the capital to invest. The issue was with the revenue difference between Montgomery County and the rest of the Capital Region. How do they make it a viable project for them so they can get the return?" he said.
Ossenfort says this is a once in a lifetime opportunity for Montgomery County. He believes they have a very strong plan, said that during the public meetings about the casino proposal not one person stood up in opposition.?
